The package:mine filter pulls the package name from the current flavor's application ID. Here are some of the issues I have with it: The new filter textbox makes me feel less productive, and is the main reason I always select "Slightly Dissatisfied" every time Android Studio asks me what I think of the new logcat. I much prefer the previous approach where you had the ability to individually select which (debuggable) app's logs you wanted to see, what you wanted to filter with, and whether or not you actually wanted to only include logs by the selected app. I hate to say this, because I'm sure Google spent a lot of time working on it, but I'm not a huge fan of the new "omni-filter" textbox. ( issue 229642755) This makes Googling for exceptions slower. No Copy/Search with Google context menu options. Unfortunately, the "Restart Logging" button isn't available in the new logcat. One way to fix this is to temporarily view the logs for a different device (if you have more than one device connected), or kill adb. Logging occasionally stops working ( issue 229837322). The new Compact View can probably help with this, but I still need to set it up to my liking. I would like to be able to change it from the logcat window itself (maybe have columns that you can drag to resize them, but I realize that this can be difficult to implement on a textbox)

My only minor complaint here is that it's a bit cumbersome to change the width of the tag/package name columns.

The new formatter makes the logs look very clean. You can read about it in the changelog: Īfter using it for a while, I'd like to share my thoughts on it, and I invite you to do the same.Įach tag has its own unique color which makes it easy to differentiate between all the different tags. For those who don't know, Android Studio Dolphin Canary 6 has introduced a new Logcat with features, such as better formatting, multiple logcat windows, and more.
